The
Caledonia Wildlife Bird
Sanctuary was once a
cocoa estate.
It
is located near the
village of Black Rock .
The
owner begun feeding the
wild birds in the area,
after the disruption of
cocoa production by
hurricane Flora in 1963.
Today
the estate continues as a
wildlife sanctuary.
The
estate house has been
converted into a nature
center.
Over
the years mot-mots and
other birds have been
conditioned and usually
come in around 4pm for
their regular feeding.
Their
fear of humans is minimal
and you may be able to
hand feed some birds.
