Tobago is located 77 miles off Venezuela and 21 miles NE of Trinidad. It lies at 11 degrees and 14 minutes N and 60 degrees and 40 minutes W.
Capital City Scarborough.
Government Trinidad and Tobago became independent from Great Britain in 1962 and has a Westminster styled parliamentary democracy.
International Airport Crown Point Airport (TAB), only 13 km/8 miles from Scarborough. Piarco International Airport in Trinidad.
Airlines From the San Juan, Puerto Rico daily flights with American Eagle. Occasional flights from London, Frankfurt.
Inter island flights with Liat from Barbados and Air Caribbean from Trinidad.
BWIA has 2 flights weekly from Miami.

Custom Regulations The duty-free allowance into Tobago is 200 cigarettes (or 250 grams of tobacco or 50 cigars) and one litre of spirits or wine.

Entry Documents Valid passports & return tickets. Visa not needed for N. American, UK and most European and Commonwealth citizens, except for Australia, India, Nigeria, Uganda, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania.

Language The local language is English with a delightful dialect. You may also hear Hindi, Chinese, French and Spanish and German.

Clothing Light, casual dress is normal. Some hotels and restaurants require 'elegantly casual' in the evenings.

Deep Sea Diving Drift diving ledges, crevices, caves and sponges. Worth taking a trip to St. Giles and Sisters Islands, Manta City, Japanese Gardens, Black Jack Hole. Decompression available in Port of Spain

Inoculations Not needed. Bring insect repellent for forest trips.
Drinking Water Tap water is generally safe to drink. Bottled water can be purchased.
Transportation Air Caribbean operates around eight daily round trip flights between Crown Point and Piarco, Trinidad.
A daily ferry (except Saturdays) leaves Scarborough for Port of Spain, a 5 hour journey.
Private taxis are available at hotels. Public route taxis and maxi-taxis can be hailed from the roadside.
Public buses are provide limited services throughout the island.
Driving Driving is on the left side. You must possess a valid international license or a valid driver's license from your country of residence.
The speed limit is 30 mph / 50 km/hr throughout the island.
Road Conditions Many city roads are well-paved, but winding and narrow country roads are common.
You must take care particularly when driving at nights and during rain storms.
Other Activities Cricket - Tennis - Golf - Turtle watching (April - May) Trips to Little Tobago, Rain Forest , Buccoo Reef, exploring and bird watching.
Security Drugs are illegal in Trinidad and Tobago.
Even a small amount, including marijuana, can land you in serious trouble.
Be careful with valuables at all times - use hotel safes, lock cars and hotel rooms.
Use a guide if hiking in lonely and unfamiliar places.
Use the same common sense as you would use anywhere else.
Media The Tobago News and The Tobago Star appear weekly - Friday and Wednesday respectively.
Tobago's only radio station is Tambrin Radio at 92.1 FM.
Daily and weekly papers from Trinidad are available.
Trinidad based TV and radio stations are received in most of the island.
