The "Trini accent" is common to all, it is unmistakable
and is used even when speaking standard English.

Primarily, the vocabulary of Trinidad and Tobago is English.
The Trinidad and Tobago vocabulary also contains words which can be traced back to languages spoken in West Africa, among the Kwa and Akan dialects along with words that are of Amerindian, French, Spanish and East Indian derived.

Trinidad spoke French for about one hundred years of its history, there are a large stock of French words and French syntax using Trini words. - "It making hot" ... the French "Il fait chaud".

Several mythological spirits have French derived names: lajablesse, soucouyant, Papa Bois, lagahou. French words like balisier, pomme cythere, mauvais langue and macommère are commonly used.

The Spanish influence is seen in the names of many places and foods - pelau, sancoche, pastelle, sapodilla, parang.

Hindi words as part of everyday speech. - beyganne, roti, beti, tawa.
