Tobago Annual Yachting Regatta

Each year Tobago has a sailing week in May, sponsored by Angostura and Yachting World Magazine.
The Angostura Yachting World Regatta begun in 1980 and Tobago was selected as the ideal venue.
The first Tobago Regatta Race Week was held at Courland Bay, in 1982 and in 1987 the regatta was renamed The Angostura Tobago Race Week.
The Tobago Regatta Race Week has been well received among regional yacht clubs and it has established a level of proficiency that has been its hallmark ever since.
Tobago provides superb sailing conditions and the island has a lot to offer visiting yachties.
In 1994 promotions in the British Yachting Monthly magazine, attracted international participation in the Regatta.

Store Bay, Tobago hosted over 51 visiting yachts for the 1994 Regatta, of these, 70% competed while the remainder formed a merry bunch of spectators and spare racing crew.
Expanding the regatta to include the live-aboard class has increased participation since many yachts with permanent residents on board were now welcome.
Yachties from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, South Africa and even Australia turned out in their numbers for a chance to race in our glorious Caribbean waters.
The fervour and dedication of the organisers, the excellent racing conditions and the competitive spirit were overwhelming
The Angostura Tobago Regatta has now become an annual fixture because of the serious competitiveness, professionalism dedication the friendly spirit of the organizers and participants and the merry celebrations both on and off the water.
There are several marinas on the main land of Trinidad that attract customers form all over the world and especially from other islands more at risk for hurricanes.
Facilities have been built at Courland Bay, Tobago, to attract the yachting crowd.
