The culture of Trinidad and Tobago

Carnival is this Republic's most exciting introduction to the world.

Trinidad and Tobago has a very highly developed visual, creative culture reflective of the islands mixed ethnic roots.

The most obvious examples are the ingenious designs of the carnival bands that invoke skills like wire bending, copper beating, and fiberglass molding in addition to the choreography involved in its presentation.

Peter Minshall and other carnival band designers are known internationally. Their ideas and designs now being copied and used all over - Disney world etc.
The Barcelona Olympic Games, 1992 and the Atlanta Games in 1996 presented Minshall's work to the world.

Our fine painters (Cazabon 1813-83) and noted authors Naipaul, C L R James, Samuel Selvon, Eric Williams and Earl Lovelace do us proud.
